Tips for Creating Affirmations
Affirmations are simple, yet powerful statements that can help us create change or begin to see ourselves as we truly are. However, it may seem a little daunting to create one that is personal and meaningful to you.
Here are some tips I have for creating affirmations:
Listen: Be open to what you hear and read. Oftentimes an affirmation can be sparked from movies, books, inspirational quotes, and even conversations. Make a note of these sparks.
Reversal: What are those negative, self deprecating thoughts you have? Write them down. Then turn them into positive statements.
Present: Affirmations are written in present tense. “I am” instead of “I will”. This helps you to see yourself in that way now instead of it being a goal that will occur in the future.
Goals: Speaking of goals, what goals do you have? Can you write them as an affirmation as if you are that person now? Perhaps you have a goal to move your body more. You could use an affirmation such as, I move my body with ease.
Self-Care: Where do you need to care and nurture yourself more? These can be turned into great affirmations.
Affirmations are powerful personal development tools and I hope you’ll try to create your own. Here are few of my favorites to get you started:
- I am at peace with my surroundings.
- I am open to abundance in many forms.
- I am strong in my body and mind.
- I am creative.
- I am kind and generous.
